Women’s Health Center

Moses Cone Women’s Center located in Greensboro North Carolina is 4,469 square foot facility that treats a variety of women’s health conditions. For many women the experience of going to the gynecologist can be stressful and cause anxiety, because of this one of the main goals for this project is to make a space that is stress free and comfortable. The doctors have expressed the want for a space that is curvilinear and organic, to fulfill their wants I made the wall in the back curved and I added texted wall panel to it to give a moving feeling. I chose to use a natural color pallet.

In the waiting room I chose to stay with the same colors and overall design, but did add more wood tones and more natural, earthy elements. The oversized flower pendent that is hanging above the reception desk and greenery wall hanging give a very organic feeling. Because everybody is different I provided two different type of seating, I offered  large modular seating, along with a large amount of chair seating.

 

West Haven Elementary School Outdoor Area

West Haven Elementary School located in the New York Hamptons is a private charter school that offers grades kindergarten through 5th grade. The purpose of the spaces is to create a space that isn’t a play ground but is a place where teachers can bring the class room outside. I was asked to make create a few perspectives of the outdoor spaces. The outdoor spaces are shared between two grades with the exception of 5th grade that has its own outdoor space, because children of different ages have different needs and want I incorporated something different into each individual space.

All of the spaces featured three raised bed gardens, a small fish pond, a outdoor lecture space, a large tic-tac-toe board and hop-scotch made into the flooring.

Raised bed gardens are a great way for children to learn valuable skills like how to plant and take care of a garden, which ends with the reward of knowing they have grown the food they will be eating. The raised beds are also a great tool for teachers because they can use them for experiment and work gardening into their curriculum.

 Each outdoor space has a fish pond, the pond is designed for small fish and water plants. Teachers can chose how they use the fish pond, lower may put fish in them to teach kids the valuable lesson of caring for fish. High grades may use them a place to grow plants as science experiments. The outdoor lecture/entertaining can sit up to 24 kids and can serve as a place for teachers to lecture to kids outside on nice days or as a place for students to have show and tell, talent shows, and give presentations.
